Our application checklists are comprehensive guides designed to support students through every stage of the Service Academy and ROTC application process. They build on the general roadmap outlined below, providing the details you need to stay on track and succeed.
1. Check Your Eligibility
Confirm you meet the basic age, citizenship, academic, and fitness requirements for Service Academies and/or ROTC scholarships.
2. Explore Your Options
Learn about the different military pathways (Academies vs. ROTC), choose 1–3 programs to focus on, and start connecting with mentors, alumni, and admissions reps.
3. Prepare and Plan
Study for the SAT/ACT, begin physical training, and let your counselor and recommenders know you’ll need their help with transcripts and letters.
4. Start Applications Early
Complete the Pre-Candidate Questionnaire (for Academies) or ROTC online application, and apply to colleges at the same time if pursuing ROTC.
5. Write and Refine Your Essays
Draft strong personal statements about your motivation to serve. Get feedback from mentors and teachers, then revise and submit.
6. Complete Assessments & Interviews
Take your required fitness and medical exams. Schedule and prepare for interviews with nomination sources or ROTC representatives.
7. Finalize and Follow Up
Submit all materials by each program’s deadline. Stay in touch with admissions or recruiters, and prepare for success—whether it’s a yes, a no, or a next step.
